    Beautifully packaged...BUTOverall, if you're a beginner or your purpose for the stones is fory identifying or teaching, this is an O.K. bunch.BUT (it hurts me to give poor reviews).This is worth reading. I just couldn't give this $27 rock collection 5 or even 4 stars.Sadly, all of the shark teeth are chipped or broken, the largest piece in the package was limestone, also known as gravel. After I took out all the pcs that were not polished and 1/3 looked like gravel, I took a pic for you. I washed these stones to be sure.I should have read the description more closely, as I do not know how chipped sharks teeth are part of a rock collection. A metallic piece, assuming it's the meteorite, was packed separately, it would have made sense to also pack sharks teeth as none of them were complete. I feel silly spending $27 for this bunch when the same amount costs a fraction at my local Rock Shoppe.There's no Lapis, Emerald, Ruby, Saphire or any other more common stones I had hoped for. Amethyst is listed on the identification sheet 3 different ways, quartz twice and rose quartz twice.Small polished stones and Extra small polished stones are also included in the grid, Tiger eye and red tiger eye are listed, so technically everything is accounted for in the box, but that means there are only about 20 different stones to identify, not the 36 the Identification Sheet led me to believe.Unfortunately Amazon doesn't offer much in the way of rock collections, I suggest checking eBay.They just about beg for a 5 star review and offer a great return policy, but I didn't buy it to have to deal with the hassle of returning it. My advice, REMOVE the LIMESTONE. It's just going to upset most of the ppl in the Midwest.I do appreciate the beautiful packaging. Much thought and care was put into presentation. 3Priceless Expression of Happiness!!The expression on my seven year old son's face was priceless. It was his gift for getting good grades the first month of school. I'm very happy with everything that came in the box. My son sat for three hours sorting through all of it and looking through his rocks/mineral book to review what he had picked up. My budding geologist has spent many hours ...What a FANTASTIC deal! My budding geologist has spent many hours now sifting through the rocks, sorting them, and inspecting them. As a consumer I truly appreciate the "no frills" packaging and speedy shipping because I feel like my money went toward a better product and more of it. I compared other rock/gem assortments and by far I believe that this is the highest quantity of rocks you will get for your money. The rocks are in a simple ziploc bag that comes in a very small cardboard box. No air in there to fill with inflated bags or other packing material. The informational material is straightforward and easy to read and with very little instruction small children can easily identify each of the rocks on the enclosed chart, even if they're not yet able to read the names of each rock. The added bonus of the meteorite, that interacts with the magnetic hematite, put this over the top for me. My kids have been awe struck at holding a real piece of meteorite and discovering it's added metallic properties.If I could give them more than 5 stars, I would. Really great product. Also many repeats of the same kind of rock,ok. Plus Goldstone is not a rock. It is man made. Maybe for the younger kids if a very small plastic magnifying glass was added that would be nice. Then again the kids may try to use the glass and the sun to set the house of fire! I took some of the extra plain rocks out and put them in the flower bed.. Take out for less shipping expense for you. Good customer service. 4ImpressiveThis is a very nice selection of minerals--both smooth, tumbled stones and rougher samples of other types of rock. If you have a reasonable understanding of geology--this is a great group. Young people would be quite pleased with it--I am almost 70 and got it just to look at rocks like I did when I was young. It's a good buy--without question. I would suggest you rinse them before handling to remove dust and make the rocks more easily identified. There are some really beautiful stones. Highly recommended. 5Huge hit with my nature-loving 7 year oldMy 7 year old son is very nature-oriented, and recently said he wanted to start a rock collection. He received this as a gift for Christmas to get him started. He LOVES it! He sat for a good hour or more going through and matching them up to the guide, examining them and showing everyone his favorites. He was ecstatic to find out there were shark's teeth, and he found a good dozen or more. He found two arrowheads, which was fun for him too. I don't know much about rocks or geology, but this was the perfect gift for him. My 10 year old son was mildly interested, but my almost-4 year old daughter enjoyed looking through the collection with him for awhile.They came in a gallon size ziplock bag, which was in a plain white box. The white box had a label printed on it, so he had to read it to find out it was a rocks and mineral kit (as opposed to just seeing 12 rocks through a plastic cover like most of the "kits" on here), but this one contained so much, and I felt it was worth the price, even if it didn't quite have the visual appeal of the other kits. 5My child loved it.I got this kit for my child and they loved it. They're interested in rocks and gems and how they're formed, so I went looking for a good introductory kit. Dancing Bear's kit received rave reviews, so I figured I would try it. I was not disappointed.Dancing Bear's done a great job of compiling a kit full of interesting rock and gem samples. You get common gravel, ancient shark teeth, reproduction arrow heads, and a variety of polished stones and gems. You get several of each sample, too, so you get a good idea of what Red Jasper, for instance, looks like compared to Snowflake Obsidian. The kit comes with an identification chart with full color pictures of each sample. The chart is very handy and easy to use, so my child, who can't read yet, was still able to pick up different stones and gems and put them on the correct picture on the chart. The kit also has a small bag containing a piece of a meteorite from South America. My child was excited to hold something that was once really floating in space. That was a great moment.One thing some reviewers dinged Dancing Bear for was the packaging of the kit. You receive a cardboard box with a large Ziploc bag in it containing the rocks, teeth, arrowheads, etc all mixed together and the full-color ID chart. I don't mind that a bit. My child and I had a fine time separating them out on our own and identifying them using the ID chart. I assume more value in the packaging would only mean higher retail prices. Don't worry about the packaging.I would highly recommend this kit and I might consider it for other children in my life as a gift. I think home schoolers would also like using it as a teaching tool. 5Not worth the money, lots of simulated stonesSeveral of the stones are simulated, meaning man-made not real. There s a teeny tiny piece of media right in a meteorite kit. It was not worth the money I paid I expect everything not to be simulated a bigger variety with names of everything in the bag, including the tiny polished stones . Way too much money frankly this kit is worth maybe $15. Oh and the shark teeth are all broken because they were thrown in with the crystals in a giant bag I would ve separated each type of stone and individual baggies and padded those things somehow in the box, this ensures that your customer doesn t get so many broken stones. I d return it but so many were broke in the first place. 1Excellent collection, worth the purchase priceExtremely satisfied with this purchase. Kit contains a generous quantity of stones, and they were an excellent assortment that actually exceeds the number of different types described on the identification sheet. (I will probably have to invest in an identification guide to find them all). The samples themselves are beautiful and must have been assembled from a wide variety of sources.I was curious about the meteor fragment and worried I might have trouble identifying it, but there was no problem, as it was kept separate from the rest in a small bag to keep it from becoming lost in the mix. One small thing you can't tell from the pictures on Amazon: the identification sheet that comes with the set doesn't just have pictures and names -- there are informational details on the back of the sheet which tell you a little something about each kind of stone it identifies. 5Will buy more!!! Bought this as a gift for my nephew this year for Christmas and before I wrapped it up I wanted to peek inside make sure it wasn't a dud... it is so good I will need to buy one for myself and several other people on my list! there was a very large amethyst cluster that sparkles... A massive piece of quartz crystal and without digging through it too much I can see several other amazingly bright specimens that I can't wait to see him dig out! I noticed several sharks teeth and at a first glance of the arrowheads I don't think they are authentic but they are perfect for educational purposes. This is perfect for any Rock lover or treasure hunter in your life. 5
