Customer Reviews

Great Bow & Arrow for ChildrenI received this item on July 27, 6 days after the expected delivery range of July 16-21, however, it is a great bow and I am very pleased with the quality. I bought it for my nephew who's 6 years old, and he loved it. I and my brother, who is 16, also had a great deal of fun shooting this; and I can tell it will bring many more fun times. I will definitely recommend this to anyone with a young family member who is interested in archery. It will not disappoint. I am thinking about purchasing the extra bows and quiver as well. I took one star away for the late delivery, but otherwise this product is worth 5 stars. 4Okay...The shipping for this product was great, as I received it well in range of my expected shipping dates. My daughter received the bow and immediately opened the box, and the bow was in pieces. She was disappointed that she had to put it together, and there were no instructions. The bow comes divided in two halves of the strong plastic bow part, with the string connecting them. When putting on the second half to the first half, you need so much strength to stretch the string that it is almost impossible. After it was put together, the arrows had very nice and strong suction cup tips, but the tips can fall off. They can be put back on, but you have to be so delicate with them afterwards. We were disappointed to find out that the arrows had no fletching, but I guess that can be easily fixed. The real problem came when my daughter was holding an arrow by the nock, ready to put it on the string. The nock fell off, and the yellow plastic that surrounded it. I'm still not sure if you could superglue it or not. 4Great Kids Toy and Archery IntroThis is a great toy. Unlike other toy archery kits I've bought for young kids, this toy is designed to shoot well. The bow has a nice arrow guide near the handle that helps the arrow leave the bow properly. The suction cup arrows are nice and long, allowing for a deep pull back. These arrows don't really have feathers on their back ends, for very good reason. As I've learned through purchasing lesser kids kits, arrows with aesthetic "feathers" on the back end simply interfere with how the arrow leaves the bow. I can't get any arrows from the "Big Game Jr. Archery" set to leave the bow properly. The always hit the target sideways, failing to stick. Big disappointment. Also, the "Big Game Jr. Archery" set includes arrows that are generally too short. I highly recommend this kit for any kids 5 and under that are interested in how archery works. It's a great, safer way to learn. 5Good, but not great. Still worth it.Initially was very happy with it overall. After more than a year, I still can't complain too much. Here are the points to "emphasize":Bought it over a year ago, for our daughter who was then 5 years old. She LOVED it then and still enjoys it now.I am pretty sure that this is really a left-handed bow. The arrow rest should be on the opposite side of the bow for someone right handed (see image). Maybe the sight, too?I half-expected that it would not be especially durable, but was still disappointed when one of the arrow shaft broke. I was able to repair it to the point that it's usable.Since we have three young ones, I'm not sure how it broke (misuse or fragile material), but the upper limb (blue portion) also snapped...near the point where it connects to the red/yellow grip (see image). By drilling two holes in the upper limb I reattached it, and the bow works, though the bow string is a bit shorter. The suction cups don't have great holding power, so I have to moisten it with some saliva (eew!) or a wet rag each time they shoot. 4Bought in Bulk, how about more arrows...We have 6 children, 3 of which are under the age of 9. We bought 3 of these bow and arrow sets for the younger kids and have been enjoying them for over a day. The bows are suprisingly strong and the arrows fly suprisingly straight, meaning they toys are capable of hitting what you aim at from well over 25 feet away. My 5 year old doesn't pull the bow all the way back, but the bows hold enough power that her arrows still fly and stick. The suction cups on the end of the arrows sticks WELL to the provided target and to glass/mirrors, so much that the kids can pull the shaft off the suction cup head when attempting to retrieve one of their hits. Superglue between the suction cup head and shaft has remedied this issue. The arrows are definitely the low quality piece of this toy, with 4 of our 9 arrow shafts being curved, and two of the arrows have had their notched back end snapped through use. At the rate of 2 broken arrows a day, we'll be out of ammo by the end of the week. We'll try some superglue on that tonight, and worst case, we'll notch the back end of the arrow so the kids can continue to play with the full complement. For the purchase price, these could have been far worse, and I have 6 happy kids playing with the 3 bow sets, with Brave girls and Robin Hood boys. 5MIsleadingThe target was cheap plastic and the sticker wasn't properly adhered - lines and air bubbles throughout, not smooth which makes it hard for the arrows to stick. There is no scope in the package, although it looks like there is. The package came with the parts loose inside and no directions. Lakeshore learning has a better product at the same price that includes math counting - when this one breaks - and it will, it's so cheap, we'll go there. This isn't worth the cost of return shipping or we would. O stars if I could, it's junk. 1Surprisingly GoodKids archery sets are notorious for lousy quality. To make them safe for the little ones, they are usually designed to be essentially useless as a device for flinging sticks through the air. This one surprised me with its excellent blend of safety and quality. Three things make it a winner.1. The Bow is solidly designed with bolts for putting together three stout pieces. While it really does not flex much -- the string does all the work -- it has heft and the little hand grip is perfect for my 4-year old daughter (who envisions herself as Merida from "Brave".)2. Dispensing with the feathers at the rear of the arrow was brilliant -- not missed in the least, and actually assists with some semblance of accuracy as the arrow leaves the bow string, it doesn't get knocked out of true by some silly feathers that would do nothing to improve trajectory.3. The suction cups are well sized to actually stick, and hold the arrow on its target. They also provide a nice big surface up front so that no matter where these arrows manage to get aimed at, no-one no matter how small, and no-thing, is going to get hurt. Two things that would give it a fifth star.1. The back of the arrows have a plastic yellow sleeve glued on with a notch in it. 2 of the 3 yellow sleeves broke off the arrow within a few days of use. Easily fixed by just notching the end of the wooden arrow with a quick run on the band saw. That fix would be a little more trouble for those without an equiped wood shop. Suggest the manufacturer just notch the wooden arrow to begin with and you save the cost of the yellow sleeve, and gain some customer satisfaction at the same time.2. Note to your marketing department -- girls dig this toy -- might want to look at some packaging alternatives. 4Great set but would benefit from assembly instructions.First I have to say that my 7 year old daughter loves this bow and arrow set. It is sturdy, appears to be well made and is just the right size and appropriate for her skill and age. I will note however that the toy came with absolutely zero instructions for assembly - except for a picture on the side of the box which I think was totally inadequate. I spent waaaaaaaaaaay too much time putting this together - having to take it apart after a major struggle the first time when I realized I had left off two key pieces. For me, this was a serious flaw in the whole package. In addition, if your child - like mine - is being introduced to archery for the first time, a few instructions on how to hold the bow properly etc would have been nice. Nothing came with the bow and arrows and target except the pieces. Again - a minus. The price was right, delivery was prompt, and once it was all put together her the toy was a hit - but some assembly and use instructions would have been helpful. 3Bow is very durable but not the arrows. My 7yr old son got 2 different bows for Christmas. This one & Legends of the West Tuscon bow. The Tuescon bow was much cheaper & was actually delivered broken (a testament to its very thin plastic design). This bow however is much more durable & strong. It has to be put together w/ a Phillips screwdriver but even though there's no instruction book, u can just look at the box to find out how to assemble it. I like the thicker plastic & construction. Looks like it'll last a while, unlike that cheaper Tuscon bow. The only complaint I have is the weak arrows. The back end of the arrows (the part that has the groove for the string) snapped off on all 3 arrows within 2 days. The arrows themselves are strong but that end tip won't hold up long if ur child misses a lot. I believe I can fix them by cutting a groove into the ends to simulate the orginal design (what breaks off is a plastic tip about 2 inches long). Overall, I like the bow. Just will have to buy more arrows. 3Take the frusteration out of bow and arrows for kids!Purchased 2 of these for 4 1/2 and 8 year old boys. Have purchased other similar sets that proved to be cheap or frusterating for the kids or both! Bought these based on the reviews. They are perfect! The have just the right assisting parts to make the child successful every time. The arrow lines up perfectly on the guider and the string has just the right resistance. The arrows really take off! The sunctions work great on the target and on anything glass. I wish it came with double the amount of arrows (for typical kid purposes)though. Easy to put together. Not babyish, it is suction cups, which like others said they worried about the right age for that but if your using them for fun inside (we live in Michigan, it is cold more then half the year)they really are perfect. Both boys like them VERY much and they are 3 and a half years apart in age. They are very much a boy boy meaning they are rough on their stuff and like something only if it works and continues to work. These do. Bottom line, for the price this is the best deal and the right set. I ordered an extra set of arrows for each child, oddly they were placed into the original box holding the actual archery set rather then in a seperate package...strange and worse they are not the right arrows. Looking through the site now there doesn't seem to be extra arrows to order for this set, the ones I ordered were for the same toy maker but for a crossbow that they make...I swear I ordered what I read in another review but I must be mistaken.(update:see my other review on same toy) 4
