Customer Reviews

Full of errorsOh my... where do I begin. Maybe here: it's so bad I had to write to Learning Resources. There are COUNTLESS "typos" (I am hoping that's all they are ahah). Here's a sneak peek: in Africa, the country CHAD is spelled CHAN; in South America, the country COLOMBIA is spelled COLOMBLA. In Europe, the country CROATIA is spelled OROATIA (?!?!). The city Brest, in France, is spelled Btest.Even more obvious: Belorussian (BELARUS); Moldavian (MOLDAVIA); Turkmen (TURKMENISTAN); Czechoslovakia (Czech Republic since the 1990s). It is pretty appalling.Sure, it's a fun inflatable ball. But it's a globe! It should be geographically correct, no? I thought the purpose of the ball was to show your children different countries and let them become familiar with a map...not sure I want my kids getting used to such bad mispells. 1Make sure you get what you paid forThis is a great globe. It came with a repair kit and activity guide. The text is bold and countries are colorful. The ocean is a normal light blue color; not the bright blue pictured.Beware of fakes. I ordered this and got a knock off. I didn t know it at the time until my second one came. The right hand one is the knock off. It came in learning resource packaging but does not have a logo and called Russia the Independant Common Weath States plus it had 2 huge holes. Look for the logo at Antarctica to be sure you have the correct one. 5MISTAKE BUYING WASTE OF MONEYCons This ball does not hold air very well. We like to play volleyball with it but it loses air after 10 minutes of blowing it up. It is a polyhedron instead of a sphere and it is very lopsided. The seams poke out like it is inside out. There are no states marked in the United States, just cities and capitals. The Mississippi river falls on a seam and is invisible. It does not show the Arctic The print is really smallPros It has lots of colors (5) The map is kind of accurateFrom Stanley Lombardo's granddaughter 2Excellent globe for little ones at a great price.I use this globe nearly every day with my kindergartners. It is perfect because they can hold it, drop it, squeeze it, what have you and it will be just fine. I haven't had any problem with it not holding air. We use it whenever we read a book that takes place in a different country to first locate ourselves and then that country. We also used it map out a classmate who moved to Japan and when the music teacher taught us songs from France and Africa. My students also enjoy just taking the globe out during quiet reflection time and copying the names of countries and oceans onto scrap paper. It's provided lots of authentic learning experiences and at such a cheap price I would buy it over and over and over again. 5Don't buy this globe if you live in eastern Australia, you're not on the mapThis inflatable globe is of shockingly poor quality, in so many ways. The color coding is off, showing Libya and Sweden in the same color as the ocean that\borders them, and Hungary as a big lake; Switzerland is shown as part of Italy; cities in Europe are shifted and printed sometimes in the middle of the Mediterranean; the seaming cuts off countries in Eastern Europe, and about a quarter of Australia; and to top it all, it won't stay fully inflated! 1DurableThis is great to show your kids continents, oceans, and countries. It looks great hanging from the ceiling and is perfect for showing my kids (3 & 4 y.o.) the continents and countries that are discussed in any of the books we are currently reading (right now its dinosaurs). This is an excellent resource for broad geography discussions. It is also very durable. My 4 year old does like to find everything on this inflatable globe but she also likes to sit and lay on it. So far, it has held up great! The day after writing this review, I looked at the globe again quickly, and I believe only three oceans are labeled. I can easily point out the missing labels to my kids, so for me, this isn't a big deal. 5looks rather like a peeled tangerineMy 4 years old son recently developed interest in maps and atlas. He likes pointing out where we live and also group special animals that live in a particular continent. I bought this globe so that he can understand the world is round not flat as he sees in the atlas and also sees the relative locations of continents at a global scale. He is a little young for free standing professional office globes that have all those axis and lighting stuff. Those globes are both very expensive and also would not stand well in the hands of a preschooler. This looked like a basic item that would do the job of giving some insight to a preschooler. However I am mostly disappointed with how the product actually is.What I liked about this item is that the countries and cities are labelled okay. Some reviewers complain about inaccuracies but I have not noticed a significant inaccuracy during my initial observation. The texts are readable and the colors are good. The other thing I liked is the option to be able to hang with the provided string. On the other hand, the globe looks nothing like a sphere at all. From my geography classes, I know that earth's shape is not an exact sphere but rather geoid which is fatter around equator. However the shape of this globe is way fatter than the actual earth. Besides, the segments are very obvious and their attachment areas are not well designed it looks more like a peeled tangerine with bulging slices all around. The latitude lines do not overlap between segments which is another defect in the design. Finally, the inflation probe is the worst I have ever seen. There is no back leak protection (normally beach balls and inflatable child floats have inflation probes which you push in air by pressing with your fingers and once you take of your hand the air can not escape back even if you don't close the top bit. This has no such function. It starts leaking as long as it is not capped and the cap is pretty loose that it can get uncapped very easily. We may need to tape it over of we decide to keep it.In conclusion, I can not say I liked this product, even though I did not have high expectations to start with. 3With a business name like "Learning Resources" I expected a more up to date ...Very dissapointed!! I purchased this to send to my sponsored child in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Instead of DRC, it shows Zaire, which is 20 years out of date!! "The country was known officially as the "Democratic Republic of the Congo" from 1965 to 27 October 1971, when it was changed to the "Republic of Zaire". ... The country's name was RESTORED by former president Laurent-D sir Kabila following the fall of longtime dictator Mobutu Sese Seko in 1997." If there had been more views showing details of other countries, I would have known not to buy this product. With a business name like "Learning Resources" I expected a more up to date product. 1Very disappointing and not worth the moneyIt doesn't hold air very well at all. We blew it up, my daughter was super excited to see where she and her relatives live. We kept it in her room mostly and it wasn't hit or used like a play ball at all but by day 3 I noticed it was visibly starting to get squishy. It only really keeps "full" for a few hours. It is a waste of money, I am not certain why it is a "best seller". I'm going to have to buy my daughter a different globe for her room. 2Package labeled "11 inch"My "12 inch" globe arrived in a package labeled "11 inch." Not a great way to start things off. Also there was no "repair kit" included.Mine matches the coloring of the picture in which the United States is yellow. It should be noted that both poles are simply ocean blue and not printed, meaning antarctica has an empty center and the top of Canada, Greenland and Russia are cut off.It still serves the purpose of helping my 5 year old understand where different parts of the world are. 3
